Amazon.com Review:
More than a prayer book, Celtic Daily Prayer is a gift from the Northumbria Community of northeastern England. This devout religious community, with members scattered around the world, is joined together by the teachings of traditional Celtic Christianity dating back to the sixth century. In assembling this collection of prayers, they offer Christians ancient Celtic devotional writing as well as contemporary sources of wisdom, such as Anne Morrow Lindbergh, T.S. Eliot, and even Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul, and Mary. The focal point for this prayer book is the daily office, although the book also includes additional meditations and daily readings. It offers two complete years of reading, so it should last a while (the publisher also promises follow-up books). Although many of these prayers come from the ancient monastic tradition, they easily speak to Christians contending with everyday things like jobs, childcare, dinners, and house cleaning. In his introduction Richard J. Foster (Celebration of Discipline) claims that this prayer book is most often found "in kitchens with bread baking and tea brewing or in living rooms crammed full of that cozy lived-in feel." --Gail Hudson

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An ancient-future prayer book
I have enjoyed this book. This is not to say that I have found every thing offered within usable to me, but I like the way it is formatted, and I have enjoyed the daily prayers and readings so far. I have used several prayer books for the last few years, the BCP, Phyllis Tickles' books, Dennis Kinlaw's This Day With the Master, Michael and Robert Benson's Disciplines for the Inner Life (the last two are very fine) and I am always looking for new inspiration. I consider this a nice addition to my ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderfully comprehensive book!
To say Celtic Daily Prayer is a daily prayer book is to sell it short severely. It is also a guidebook to creating and fostering intentional Christian rituals, complete with a list of inspiring saint day prayers, prayers and communal rituals for seasons of life, and a beautiful lent and advent guide. It is both a devotional for the individual and appropriate for group uses.

This book has quickly become one of my favorites -- the central focus of the book is on the daily prayers. Each day ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good Introduction to Rhythmic Liturgy
I purchased my first copy about five years ago and next to the Bible, this has been a wonderful traveling companion. Coming from a non-liturgical background, I feel blessed to have encountered Celtic Daily Prayer, it has warmed me to a deeper search and appreciation for some of the more traditional prayer and service books of the Christian tradition. Thanks to a dear friend at Denver's Urban Skye community, his recommendation of Celtic Daily Prayer was timely during a transition time in my life.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful Source for Daily Inspiration
I've owned, and read, this book now for five years. And every year I use it I find some new insight. I find the use of different contributors to be most useful. My only complaint would be with the binding - the book is literally falling apart after daily use.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great devotional
This is a wonderful devotional book or book of readings, scripturally based! We have enjoyed it. I was using it everyday. Now we use it for special readings at Christmas and other special days. It also made a nice gift.
