I must admit to having a mixed reaction to this book. On the one hand, I like Borg's primary objective here in trying to help disenchanted and skeptical people rediscover their faith. If someone simply can't believe in the exclusivity of grace through belief in Jesus, or in any one of a number of impossible-seeming miracles described in the Bible, I think it makes sense to point out alternative interpretations that might help get over those hurdles. This book is so readable; makes history of the writing of the Bible iteresting. Discusses the changes that have occurred in Christianity over the centuries and relates them to the culture of the times. This, in turn, helps readers understand the changes that are occurring (for our group, in the ELCA) and why they are necessary and relevant.

An interesting take on Christianity - bought it for my husband after a friend's recommendation. He really enjoyed it.

This book by Marcus Borg is one of the best I have read in a very long time. In only about 225 pages, Borg covers a lot of ground in a way that is fresh, easy to understand and at least for me, even easy to accept.
