Editorial Review:
Amazon.com Review: Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom offers an exploration of the secret universe we all carry inside us, the connections we forge with the worlds of our friends and loved ones, and the products of our worlds reflected in the things we create outside of ourselves. Anam Cara, Gaelic for "soul friend," is an ancient journey down a nearly forgotten path of wisdom into what it means to be human. Drawing on this age-old perspective, John O'Donohue helps us to see ourselves as the Celts did: we're more than just flesh, blood, and bone; we comprise individual worlds. The comprehension of the sublime architecture of the worlds we are born with will engender a new appreciation for the outside world and the way we contribute to its evolution.
Product Description: From John O'Donohue, poet, philosopher, and scholar, comes a moving introduction of Celtic insights, stories, and teachings, hailed by Deepak Chopra as a "powerful and life-transforming experience".

Starting with the front piece poem, I was amazed at how this book spoke to my soul. Coincidental with getting this book, I also met my Anam Cara, and then I found a lot of guidance on relationships and Anam Cara in the first chapter. Whether you are in a new relationship or have been with someone for years, this is a wonderful book to breathe life into that relationship and to help you find your own soul. I strongly recommend this book!

Celtic spirituality is all about love in the same way Jesus and the new testament is in essence all about love - loving yourself and your neighbor as yourself. It is also about loving all creation and being grateful for every day in it. He draws on many sources and Celtic wisdom and poetry to get his points across. If you aren't enjoying life all that much, you should read this book.

I have John's tape series "Anam Cara" and one day, after listening to one of his tapes, I just had to see if he had any other publications. To my delight and also my distress I discovered that he has several publications but that John passed away in 2008. This book is full of sweet wisdom of the Celtic culture in which john formed in. His descriptions of the spirit in the landscape and in the body can almost be seen in my mind's eye as I read the lines in this book. He writes in a way that ... Read More

I was very saddened to learn of John O Donahues death in 2008, he was only 52 years old, but after reading the chapter he wrote on death, began to see it differently. This is deep philosophical stuff, but written in such a way it makes for compelling reading. It took me a while to read as I found myself re reading sentences to grasp them again, and on reaching the last page was saddened. But will read and reread it. He had a unique and beautiful way of cutting through the nonsense of an increasingly ... Read More
