Chad Kultgen's novel, The Average American Male, is one of the funnier books I've read in a while. I happened upon this book at my sister's apartment. She told me that I would be sickened by it, and well, I tried so hard not to be. It definitely reminds me of some guys I know; especially ones I dated before I knew better. I didn't finish the book because, well, there was nothing really artistic about it. I feel bad for the author because of what his mother must think of him now...he will never go down in history as one of the greats. Henry Miller he is not.

I'm married and I do believe that half the time I'm out with my husband, this is how he's thinking, although maybe not to this extent. I think most men think the way this character does. There are parts that leave you thinking "WOW!" (think "I guess I just want something you are not.")and others that just make you laugh a little (think the ... Read More

This type of book, with a focus on sex and men-women relationships, is almost always written for women. I've seen said elsewhere, but I agree with it, that "The Average American Male" is the first book of this type written for the guys.
Of course, there's nothing in here that us guys find surprising or informative! But basically, once a guy learns a thing or two about how to build his self-confidence and a few skills with the ladies, he gets past these problems. This book, then, is a primer on ... Read More
