Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Nothing to see, move along.
Read some newspaper stories. Watch a financial show on TV. Surf the Web. You'll find more detail on why the financial world came to its knees elsewhere. Really.

The book drones on and on about everything you already know, or can very easily find. The author ends up repeating himself on many occasions, including two identical sentences in the same paragraph. I found this book a very dry read with no new ideas or insight.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Don't bother
The book begins with a background description of the events of the economic crisis we have recently experienced. It is a sanitized version of reality. Only brief mention of the greed and corruption that contributed to the collapse. Anyone who has been paying attention to events will not learn anything from this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good analysis of the crisis and value investment advice for the future
Since we are in the middle of an economic crisis, this is a really good book that explains how we got there. I found the author's explanation simple and easy to understand. The main idea behind the crisis started with the housing bubble. Easy credit fueled the housing demand, which pushed real estate prices to unsustainably high levels. The easy money kept flowing into real estate because everyone assumed that real estate prices were going to keep rising.

Besides showing readers the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great mini-book
This is a great mini-book of the issues that lead to the mortgage meltdown in 2008. It is not a textbook that is taught in class and I'm sure any 1 topic can expand into its own book. But, as an overview with great insights on economic indicators and quick reference, this is a great starter book.
I don't have much knowledge in economics or stock investing. I would consider myself just a beginner and this book rates high on my list for someone with my experience.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Hyped to Death!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from the hyped to the moon title and the usual tendency of 90% of mainstream money books to be either insanely, rabid dog frothingly pessimistic (Howard Ruff, anyone?) or screamingly, irrationally optimistic of the You Can Make a Billion $ in Your Spare Time with No Risk!!!! (Jim Cramer, anyone?) this is really just a litany of the failures of '08: Bear Sterns, Lehman Bros, AIG, Fannie & Freddie, WA Mu, and so on that anyone with even a passing interest in popular culture, let alone business, ...
