My husband and I barely read the first couple chapters and were blown away. Simple principles but wow, what a calling. I love the writers perspective on our journey to holiness and breaking ourselves not for our spouse but for the Lord. I once heard that "Marriage is meant to kill you". But that's a good thing. This book speaks along those lines. I highly recommend this book!

We embarked on this book in a small group of 20-and-30-something married couples with kids. We are all Christians and have strong marriages. We were looking for a book to further explore the two together and help us grow in each path. This isn't the book to do that.
Thomas seems stuck on marriage being a chore, and focusing in on how you have to pull up those bootstraps, and love the unlovable - including your spouse. For those in a very bad place, this book probably offers some ... Read More

This book is a great aid to any Christian who is planning to get married, or who is even considering the idea. It looks at many aspects of marriage, and proves to us that marriage is not just a promise for a while, but it's a spiritual promise to God as well, which brings with it many more responsibilities and learning experiences. I would highly recommend this book - it is meaningful, well written, and a great aid in learning.

This is one of the books that my wife and I have used for an read together before we go to bed book. This is not a standard Christian marriage book. In fact, this is as unique a Christian marriage book as I have read. There are some parts I have issues with, but the over-riding theme is right on base. This is a good book. It has helped me in my marriage and learn what truly makes a marriage successful. It's a little hard to read, I took this course at my church, which helped me follow along. I'd recommend any couple take this course and read this book, it's very practical and helpful.
