Editorial Review:

Amazon.com Review:
When Charlie Trumper inherits his grandfather's fruit and vegetable barrow, he inherits as well his enterprising spirit, which quickly lifts him out of poverty in London's East End. Success, however, does not come easily or quickly, particularly when World War I sends Charlie into combat and into an ongoing struggle with a vengeful enemy who will not rest until Charlie is destroyed. Charlie Trumper's epic journey carries him across three continents and through the triumphs and disasters of the twentieth century, all leading toward the fulfillment of his greatest dream.

Product Description:
Growing up in the slums of East End London, Charlie Trumper dreams of someday running his grandfather's fruit and vegetable barrow. That day comes suddenly when his grandfather dies leaving him the floundering business. With the help of Becky Salmon, an enterprising young woman, Charlie sets out to make a name for himself as "The Honest Trader". But the brutal onset of World War I takes Charlie far from home and into the path of a dangerous enemy whose legacy of evil follows Charlie and his family for generations.

Encompassing three continents and spanning over sixty years, As the Crow Flies brings to life a magnificent tale of one man's rise from rags to riches set against the backdrop of a changing century.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Enjoyable read
I read this many years ago. My husband got me interested in Jeffrey Archer books. This is a good book and easy read, with a good story line.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - cosmo
I enjoyed the book very much. It is over 700 pages and I read it in one weekend.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Archer is one of the best storytellers
On first glance As the Crow Flies seems daunting at 600+ pages. Let me say that this story needs this many pages and is well worth the time put in to read it. Archer is one of my favorite authors, and this novel does not disappoint. It is the life of Charlie Trumper, beginning with him working alongside his grandfather's fruit and vegetable barrow, through World War I and II, and into his life building a shopping empire, one store at a time.

What makes this book such a great read ... Read More

I've only read the first section and am really enjoying the story. This is a book I look forward to freeing up my time to get back to reading! It's my first Jeffrey Archer book and it certainly won't be my last!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - BARROW BOY BORROWS TO SUCCEED
Charlie Trumper starts his life in the 1900's observing the skills of his grandfather in maneuvering customers to buy his produce from a rickety barrow, which he inherits, and uses his constant mental and physical skill to be one step ahead of what people want...eventually owning the largest department store in Chelsea Terrace. You will follow his journey (sitting on a bench and dreaming) with his intuitive and witty wife, Becky (who you come to admire!) From street people to politicians and ... Read More
