I have great respect for much of Frommer's work but this book was a disappointment. I had found a terrific place to stay through the internet and was looking for more information about the city, its history, and the culture. I find that once restaurants have made the guide books, they often fail to live up to the hype. Consulting "local knowledge" seems to be the best way to find restaurants and entertainment. Even the maps were sometimes misleading.

I sure like this edition overall, though it had some shortcomings for my specific trip's purposes. Classic Frommers style -- concise, tight, useful info. Good complement to my other guides -- TimeOut Buenos Aires, Footprint and Fodors. Some key items about towns and lodging in Mendoza region I only found in Frommers. But, was weak on info for NW-Salta-JuyJuy region as compared to the others.

We used this guide primarily for Mendoza and for Buenos Aires, and I found it very helpful. There were a lot of useful tidbits on local culture and customs (such as the water bottle shrines along the highway), and the reviews of places to stay and dine and explore were up to date and relevant. My only complaint was that the number of restaurants reviewed in Buenos Aires was quite limited...I would have preferred to have had more establishments reviewed there.
