Editorial Review:
Product Description: Nathaniel Branden's book is the culmination of a lifetime of clinical practice and study, already hailed in its hardcover edition as a classic and the most significant work on the topic. Immense in scope and vision and filled with insight into human motivation and behavior, The Six Pillars Of Self-Esteem is essential reading for anyone with a personal or professional interest in self-esteem. The book demonstrates compellingly why self-esteem is basic to psychological health, achievement, personal happiness, and positive relationships. Branden introduces the six pillars-six action-based practices for daily living that provide the foundation for self-esteem-and explores the central importance of self-esteem in five areas: the workplace, parenting, education, psychotherapy, and the culture at large. The work provides concrete guidelines for teachers, parents, managers, and therapists who are responsible for developing the self-esteem of others. And it shows why-in today's chaotic and competitive world-self-esteem is fundamental to our personal and professional power.

This book was recommended to me several times, but for whatever reason, I only read it last month. I wish I had read it years ago. While it's not something that many of us are born with, it's a practice that we can all establish. The principles he lays out in this book are ones that i have read about in other self-help books, but what I love about this book ... Read More

I thank the author for this wonderful book. This book has changed the way I regard myself. The six practices are very essential.Read this book and you will learn what self esteem is and what it is not. You will also learn about the misconceptions of self esteem. So do yourself a favor, read this book and you will never look at yourself the same way again.

Branden is one of the pioneers in this field and this book contains the insights gained from a long career. The most important principles I took from this book are that thinking for oneself and living consciously are critical. In contract, the worst thing you can do is lie to yourself because reality isn't going to change based on wishful thinking or evasion.
Branden also points out that everyone has things they don't like about themselves, but he argues that you have to accept yourself. ... Read More

I found this book 3 years ago during a defining turning point in my life and it got me through the uncertainty of how to go about rebuilding my life. As I've read many terrible self-help books by so-called experts in the past, I am skeptical about such books and was generally put off by the term 'self-esteem', which I'd previously thought of as a subject for unfortunate people whose lives were a mess. I saw this book while sheltering in a bookshop from a rain storm and thought, 'Hmm, I wonder what this ... Read More
