Product Description:
The newly revised Kingfisher First Encyclopedia of Animals is the perfect reference for children who are just learning to look up information for themselves. The entries are clearly presented with simple, informative text and more than 1,500 exciting color illustrations and photographs, arranged thematically by animal group. Cross-reference boxes help readers move through the book and find related topics of interest. Covering mammals, reptiles, birds, insects, amphibians, and sea creatures, with an introductory chapter on general topics such as habitat, migration, and conservation, The Kingfisher First Encyclopedia of Animals is just the thing for young zoologists on their first research mission.

I got this after reading WTM, and my kids love it. It is well illustrated and gives just enough information without being busy or overwhelming for younger children.

I purchased this book as a home schooling book. i was very disapointed in the amount of information given on each animal.

As a homeschool mother, this book has been an excellent tool in introducing my 6 year old and 3 year old to the animal kingdom. As my 6 yr old has said, "it has everything." The thing that makes this encyclopedia of animals far superior to some of the others for young children is the way that the animals are arranged. It is not alphabetical, there are mammals, birds, reptiles, etc. This makes great sense to my toddler and is a good tool for helping her to understand classification. There is a Table of contents and an Index for quick look up. This is a great first animal encyclopedia that we read again and again and that will probably be well loved for years to come.
