Editorial Review:
Product Description: A quiet bank clerk is turned into a cartoon character with strange abilities usually only available in animatation, all through an ancient mask he finds. Genre: Feature Film-Comedy Rating: PG13 Release Date: 3-FEB-2004 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com: Sometimes it's hard to tell if The Mask (or Jim Carrey's in-your-face mugging in general) is actually funny, or just bizarre and grotesque. And sometimes it just doesn't matter. Carrey plays a shy, Jerry Lewis-like nerd who discovers an ancient mask that magically transforms him into a green-faced, zoot-suited Tex Avery cartoon character with no inhibitions. As Roger Ebert said of Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, the actor performs "as if he's being clocked on an Energy-O-Meter, and paid by the calorie expended." If that's your kind of humor, you'll love The Mask; if not, you may need a valium or two to sit through this one. Digital video disc extras include two deleted scenes and a commentary track from director Charles Russell. --Jim Emerson

The Mask starring Jim Carrey was pretty funny and refreshing when it was released in 1994 but unfortanely this film fades with time. Carrey always gives a good performance but he's also kinda scary as the Mask. This movie is also the film debut of Cameron Diaz, she's va va voom in this one, she has great sex appeal. Good comedy but I'm pretty much over it.

The Mask (1994)
(8.5/10)
I wasn't going to remark on this one, but this release I just picked up surprised me. I was at the WalMart with the missus, and we passed by the bargain bin, and of course I was dragged in by it but this time she joined me. She pulled out The Mask & said "Why don't we ever watch this one?", and I said "Because I never bought it, I'm waiting for a newer version, that one was made around 1997, probably looks pretty bad." But then she pointed out from the back ... Read More

Stanley Impkiss (Jim Carrey) was your basic bank clerk who is a nice guy but has some problems. He soon discovers a mysterious magical ancient mask by the beach as he later puts it on and changes him into a crazy green-faced cartoony being called The Mask. He does weird and amusing things as he fights crime and make people laugh including the power to romance a sexy nightclub dancer named Tina (Cameron Diaz), but mob boss Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene) wants him dead.
Hilarious and creative ... Read More

The Mask DVD is very fantastic on the basis of clarity and sound. It is very good 5.1 sound out.

Like others reviewing this DVD I am not a big Jim Carey fan. He does create a sympathetic character in this movie. This is the first movie that I remember seeing Cameron Diaz and her beauty in this film is breathtaking. For me however an unmentioned hero in other reviews is the dog. The dog saves the day and actually gets the mask on his face and then everybody has to Watch Out! The film is worth a watch. :-)
