Product Description:
Weighing in at more than a pound and completely revised and updated, the ninth edition of this guide covers the whole range of weekend trip options in the Bay Area, from urban treks through San Francisco and Sacramento to kayaking in the Russian River and backpacking in Lassen Volcanic Park. Each destination includes information on what to do, where to stay, and where to eat. Helpful extras include the most direct driving route and stops along the way. A chapter is devoted to ski areas, with advice on the difficulty of slopes. An additional chapter covers family camps, houseboats, river and pack trips, and other adventures. Clear, current maps; a detailed index; and an appendix itemizing annual events by month and location are part of what makes this the most useful guide of its kind on the market.

I have quite a few "stuff to do" books. This one is the best of the lot. It is thick and covers alot of territory with refreshing, unique, in-the-know ideas. Glad I bought it. My go-to book for ideas for the wife's birthday and anniversary excursions.

Really good suggestions and help for a family that's just moved here. All the things we've tried from this book have been a success!

I love this guide, so much in fact that when i lost it a year ago I bought another copy. The advice is useful, though you'll need a more detailled map to accompany it, and it hits the bright spots of each little town without leaving out much. Great if you are new to the Bay Area and want to explore without feeling like a tourist.

My husband and I bought this book along with several others after living in the Bay area for a while. We were hoping to get ideas on things to do on weekends, and we have found that this book has been incredibly useful and has inspired us to go much farther and really take advantage of the interesting destinations in the area. We usually pick a direction that looks interesting, plan a few stops along the way and take off for a fun day trip or (occasionally) overnight trip, and she never leads us astray. ... Read More
