What the other reviewers don't mention, for some reason, is that several points of the story are an homage to an earlier era of Supe's history, namely the 70s and early 80s. The first close-up of Lois Lane marks her as a dead ringer for Margaret Kidder from the first two superman movies. She's even served the "freshly squeezed orange juice" she keeps going on about in those movies.

Geoff Johns can write! Anyone who has read his work knows this. Granted, he's had a few shortcomings along the way, but overall, his track record is top-notch!
He manages to make Superman(a character pegged by most modern-day readers as a "boring, big, blue boyscout")into a relevant and fun hero.
Johns does a magnificent job writing about the "human" aspect of our hero, putting a spotlight on all of Clark Kent's deliberate quirks. He also touches on the seemingly ridiculous notion ... Read More

The cover is probably the worst frame in this collection. The art is very dynamic, deatailed and overall just some of the best. The writing is believable, witty, and strongly promoting individual characters. Some of the main story plots, though, are a little...dumb. Superman, after finding out that the true Brainiac is actually way more powerful and floating around somewhere in the universe, decided, like a complete idiot, to go find him. This was a really good story. LOVED the tiny part were Zod is involved. Writers focus on that too... the times were current bad guys were good guys. Anyway... this story have lots of goodies involving the real Brainiac.
I'm not quite familiarized with Superman story, but what happened with the bottled city of Kandor we all know. I dunno. This story though is a good vehicle to start things over. Not sure about Brainiac bulked look though.
