I read and used some of this book, and what I took was helpful. I did combine it with a few other books I read to come up with my own approach. No one knows your kid like you do, so I never hesitate to add and omit as I see fit. I did appreciate the no frills nature of the book.

The tactics used in this method can largely be summarized in two words: shame and bribery. While I believe that this method will work quickly for a lot of families, it falls far outside MY parental comfort zone.

I will start by saying that I did not follow the book to a T, but it provided the basis of structure and routine that I was not previously using in my PL efforts. I found the suggested rewards to be a little extravagant (i.e. a tricycle for self-initiating)--stickers and excited praise worked fine for us. She got a book on her first completely accident-free day. We had a few melt downs in the first couple days, which the book gave me the confidence to muster through. It was much easier on day ... Love this book.
I modified things a teensy bit to fit my own needs, but it's great. The book itself is easy, well organized and easy to do. I read it all in about 30 minutes and had my daughter trained in 3 days. Persistence is the key!! Good luck to all of you doing this right now! I definitely recommend the book.

We had already introduced my 2 year old to the potty, but we were not making much progress on our own. I tried this method (which is really a combination of several popular methods), and it worked really well. I don't agree with the negative reinforcement, but we mostly followed the book's instructions. My 2 year old, of course, still needs frequent reminders to use the pottty.
