Editorial Review:
Product Description: Weary of struggling with your toddler? Frustrated with the failing advice of secular psychologists and permissive parenting gurus? Leery of the strict focus on rules and the hyper-regimentation advocated elsewhere?
If you are simply looking for a straightforward Biblical approach to parenting that focuses on the heart of your child, as well as his outward actions, then Raising Godly Tomatoes is for you. In these pages you'll find a wealth of common sense and godly wisdom, a guide to applying reasonable discipline, and instructions on how to build a close relationship with your child.
Raising Godly Tomatoes encourages parents to keep their young children -- their little 'tomatoes' -- lovingly staked to them, in order to train and apprentice them in a godly way of life that will prepare them for Christ's calling in the future, and render them a pleasure to live with today. Elizabeth is a Christian homeschooling mother of ten children, ages 7 to 27. She lives with her children and her husband of 30 years, in the state of Michigan. She enjoys quilting, riding horses and playing her violin. She also spends much of her spare time encouraging parents daily via her website at RaisingGodlyTomatoes.com.

I really like her advice for the most part, especially the concept of training early (as soon as the understand "no") & consistently.
I think the "separation from the world" goes a little overboard, as I would like for my children to have other friends, and even non-Christian friends if they were supervised or I already trusted them completely.
I also take a different approach to temper tantrums & pouting. I think ignoring IS effective IF you ignore completely & are consistent. ... Read More

I highly recommend the book " Raising Godly Tomatoes". Parenting can be so confusing. I myself am not a "spanker", but the sound reasoning, in this book can not be denied, nor can the results.
I plan to give this book as a baby shower gift as well, simply because ALL parents should have access to the practical advice in the book.

This book isn't about discipline; this book isn't about spanking, time out, taking away or grounding; it is about training. Any parent with any rationality at all can see, after reading this book, that it totally MAKES SENSE!!! If you haven't read it, you just won't get it. It seems so many are quick to judge the "spanking" part. HOwever, you'll find that in the end, you'll do much less "discipling" with this method!!!!! A must have for every parent.

If you are a Christian who reads the Bible and you understand the importance of your children learning obedience, responsibility, and their relationship to God this book will be helpful to you. If you believe children should not be pushed, choose everything themselves, and that spanking is a complete sin and out of the question- you will not like this book. Not that you could not change your mind, but if you are set in that mindset, this will be a waste of your money. The author does an excellent job at ... Read More

Since human beings have evolved from simple primal animals to very sophisticated beings, a simple solution such as physically forcing a child to mind seems a little simple minded. Confining children is not healthy and this is often a technique used to isolate children for control issues, as well as segregate them from different people from themselves. In a diverse society this can be used for fasicm, racism or any other separatist issue. This is a cult like approach to child rearing and too archaic for ... Read More
