Above average film for the time. The acting is also ok for the time period. As far as being an action/thriller, things don't heat up until the last half of the movie. The DVD transfer has to be the worst I have ever seen. Nothing has been retouched and the color changes at times.

Roger Moore and Susannah York will rock you in GOLD. Go underground, way underground in this outstanding adventure romance film from director Peter Hunt. Roger Moore gives one of his best performances in a well defined and charismatic character and he truly demonstrates more depth as an actor than he has been given credit. Moore makes this film work. GOLD is an oustanding film directed by Peter Hunt. It is rich with characters, plot and raw energy and emotion. This film contains one of Roger Moore's best performances. Elmer Bernstein's score is one of his best. The entire cast is first rate. On the down side the DVD print of this very good character based adventure is less than good and that is being kind. Great video. I have read all of Wilbur Smith's books and now have been acquiring all the video/movies that are avialable.

Great movie made back in the 70s, set in South Africa.
This particular version on VHS with somewhat scratchy playback but still OK to watch.
