Editorial Review:
Product Description: Pegs in the Park is the perfect game for kids who can't yet read but are ready for some fun competitive gaming. Parents love it because it helps children practice counting, learn the concepts of forward, backward, plus and minus, and develop small motor skills. Players move their lovable pegs around the board trying to be first to reach the ice cream cart. Cards depict cheerful sights and activities they'd see during a day at the park. Reading is not required to play. For up to 4 players. Includes game board, 44 cards and instructions. Imported.

I am a educational consultant and special education teacher who specializes in educational interventions. Pegs in the Park is an excellent game for enjoyment as well as teaching tracking skills to pre-school and kindergarten children. I also use it with older special needs children. It is an excellent product and I highly recommend it educationally as well as for just having a great time with your family.

The premise seems simple enough. However, the functional set up of the board is too complicated for this age group. The peg is difficult for small hands due to the lip at the bottom, which also prevents young eyes from seeing the holes they are trying to count. The holes, themselves, are too close together. It is very difficult for a smaller child to accurately count on this board. Finally, the game is boring to small children. After 6 or 7 turns, the child's attention span is gone.

My son loves to play "Pegs in the Park". The premise is as basic as it gets. Pick a card and move the number of spaces on your path that it says. Be the first to get to the ice cream truck and you win. Everyone is on their own path. The trick is that there are positive and negative numbers so you move forward or backwards. It couldn't be simpler and yet it is exciting when you're very close to winning and get a -10! It's great for number recognition and counting. So simple, but very enjoyable. ... Read More
