Son of the Mask is a frantic sequel tailor-made for short attention spans. For 86 manic minutes, this belated follow-up to 1994's Jim Carrey hit The Mask compensates for Carrey's absence by casting Jamie Kennedy as a cut-rate animator who becomes heavily animated himself (courtesy of non-stop computer-animated effects) when he dons the ancient mask that belongs to Loki (Alan Cumming, nicely cast), the Norse god of mischief. As in the Carrey film, the mask turns its wearers into cartoonish whirlwinds of confident bluster, and that includes a little dog named Otis, and especially Kennedy's mask-induced offspring, a frenetic shape-shifting baby that's more creepy than comedic, like Ally McBeal's dancing infant on steroids and speed. This woebegone sequel quickly vanished from theaters, but it's a harmless babysitter that kids will enjoy, from the director of the similarly effects-driven Cats & Dogs. --Jeff Shannon

My son ordered his first DVD with his allowance money. I won't say it's the greatest movie, but it was in perfect condition, came very quickly. Very impressed with Mars used stuff...

My three year old grandson saw this movie on TV and my daughter said he laughed all the way through it and wanted me to see if it was going to be on again soon so I could record it with my DVD recorder. When I could not find it in the TV listings I thought "Amazon usually has access to inexpensive movies" so I got on line and had the movie in just a few days. Now Riley watches the movies at least twice a week and still laughs at that baby.

I suspect this DVD, even though sealed in the case, was burned onto disk. It does not work, and there is a handwritten number on the CD.

My main quarrel with this cinematic abortion is the original comics. Shame that so few people will know what I mean. They were filled with wall-to-wall violence, macabre, and deliciously tounge-in-cheek insanity. The Mask was ruthless, dark, yet still had that sardonic comical wit in the most extreme of situations. Most of all, the stories of the wearers were involving (at least as long as Arcudi and Mahnke were on board.) The first movie was a departure, but worked very well in its own way. ... Read More

I think this is a really good movie! I love it for what it is, and think it's a good new direction, instead of going back to Stanley Ipkiss. Ten years after the original, we meet Tim Avery and his sexy wife, Tonya. (Jamie kennedy does an awesome job as Tim. He's always hilarious!) Their dog, Otis finds the mask and brings it to him. At a HALLOWEEN party, Tim puts the mask on, and becomes just as zany as Stanley had. After the party, he goes home and makes sweet love to his wife with the mask on. Nine ... Read More
