John Ford called "Two Rode Together" (1961) "the worst piece of c--p I've done in 20 years." He was right. The legendary filmmaker shows little enthusiasm for this dreary rehash of "The Searchers." James Stewart and Richard Widmark are good additions to the Ford stock company, but they cannot bolster Frank S. Nugent's flat script and the director's overall fatigue. Happily, Ford rebounded with his final masterpiece, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (1962).
