Amazon.com: The life of the definitive French chanteuse, Edith Piaf, is celebrated in this concert/documentary hybrid, Piaf - Her Story...Her Songs. Raquel Bitton, who doesn't so much impersonate Piaf as try to channel the singer through her songs, tells tidbits from Piaf's life between faithful renditions of such classics as "Non je ne regrette rien" ("No Regrets"), "Bravo pour le clown", and of course "La vie en rose." Interspersed with this concert are scenes from a French restaurant, where Bitton has gathered an assortment of people who knew Piaf (including her son and musicians who performed with her) to reminisce about Piaf's tumultuous life and ferocious personality. The result of this cutting back and forth is a bit haphazard--the anecdotes tend to be gossipy and self-indulgent, while Bitton's sketchy narrative of the singer's life (delivered mostly in English) serves more to introduce the songs than to actually tell Piaf's biography. The songs are lovely (though fans may prefer recordings of Piaf herself to a recording of Bitton imitating Piaf) and there are some intriguing scraps of archival footage, including Piaf responding to reporters after being accused of murder and a glimpse of a melancholy Marlene Dietrich at Piaf's funeral. --Bret Fetzer

I would like to thank Amazon for their wonderful service, I have never been let down. This film, although in subtitles is a wonderful story of Piaf's life with wonderful music throughout. I would highley recomend this film to anyone intrested in Piaf, like my self .I never knew the full extent of heartach she endured in her life, though I guessed as much through the pain in some of her songs.

I recently saw the film "La vie en rose", which led me to digging up an old Piaf cassette tape which is no longer plays, which led to buying two new Piaf CD's which led to watching this very interesting presentation by the very talented Raquel Bitton!
I had no idea any person was doing such a thing and so was pleased to whet my Piaf appetite! The program moves from songs sung live to interviews with Piaf friends in a small bistro, and reflections on Piaf's beginnings, life in general ... Read More

Good. But not amazing. Piaf songs by an other singer called Raquel Bitton. Its not a documental. It is an honoring to the singer across the interpretation of her most notable songs. The intention is good, but it does not impress.

This film features an amazing performer with an exceptional voice and great stage presence. The history was also very well done.

I'll preface this review by stating that I was careless and ordered this without knowing what it was.
I made the mistake of ordering one of Ms. Bitton's CD's a few years ago. I couldn't stand it, and ended up giving it away. As a 40-year Piaf fan, I found her interpretation of Piaf the most unpleasant I'd come across. This is yet more Ms. Bitton, and I wouldn't have ordered it had I spent the time to read the contents.
My view is only my own, and others appear to like ... Read More
