Anyone with ambition to be a film writer could do far worse than to watch Roy Del Ruth's The Maltese Falcon, made in 1931, and then watch John Huston's The Maltese Falcon filmed ten years later. The plot is the same, the characters are the same, the situations and motivations are the same. The 1931 film is good.
