Disney Wild (Blu-ray)
Ryan (Greg Cipes) is a lion who wants to go to the wild, where his dad (Samson, voiced by Keifer Sutherland) once lived. When he gets himself shipped to Africa, his zoo friends (and Samson) work together to bring him back. When theyget to Africa, however, the animals find themselves in a pile of danger. They have to fight an evilwildebeest called Kazar (William Shatner). But Kazar's safe compared to the other danger on the island- a volcano that's on the edge of eruption. Canthe animals find Ryan and get out of Africa before the volcano erupts in so little time?

A cuddly koala who wants to be fierce, a squirrel in love with a sarcastic giraffe, an addle-pated anaconda, and a lion with a secret set off from their cozy zoo to rescue the lion's adolescent cub from an accidental kidnapping. After braving the dangers of the big city and stealing a boat, they find themselves in the African jungle, where a renegade herd of wildebeest have decided they want to change their position on the food chain (understandable, really). The Wild is hodgepodge--it's never clear why these mismatched creatures are friends and plot elements seem haphazardly plucked from Finding Nemo, Madagascar, and Ice Age: The Meltdown (though the latter two were made at the same time as The Wild, so it's just unfortunate for this movie that they came out first). Despite a general air of manic desperation, The Wild does have its strengths: The animation is richly realistic, leading to some gorgeous depictions of light (not exactly a selling point for kids, but adults can appreciate it). Several characters pop out--a pair of sewer crocodiles sound like NPR's Car Talk guys; William Shatner (Star Trek, Boston Legal) is effectively scary as the cult-leader/choreographer of the wildebeest; and comedian Eddie Izzard lends some of his trademark smart and silly humor to Nigel, the disgruntled koala bear. Successful bits and pieces don't make for a great movie, but they keep The Wild from the brink of disaster. --Bret Fetzer

Very forgettable-no memorable characters, voices put you to sleep-a "so What" movie. Not worth the time to watch.

my 3 year old son loved it, we watched it on the way to the zoo, it was perfect for the commute to the zoo.

This movie is astoundingly bad. Okay, the animation is decent, but the story is horrible, the screenplay atrocious, and the characters are one-dimensional and unlovable. Just because they're animals doesn't make them funny or cute or even at all interesting. The plot is predictable in most places, and completely bizarre in the others. The movie can't decide whether it's trying to be funny or a heart-touching relationship story, and in the end it's neither. Avoid this one -- lots of better choices ... Read More

This is the best Bluray picture quality I have seen for an animation film. Also the 1.85:1 format makes it even better by filling up the screen. The movie it self isn't the best but it sure is entertaining. The quality of the 3d motions remind me of the great quality like in Disney's Dinosaur (not as cartoony as Madagascar). This disc also makes a great Home theatre demo disc (see the special features menu).
The only thing that dissapoints me is that there is no "making of" or other extra technical ... Read More

First time I watched it with my 4-yr. old grandson drew me in with the relationships (father/son, romantic squirrel/giraffe).Watched it alone and found the technical aspect beats Madagascar with its stiff, jerky character movements. Great subplots and never a dull moment...great running gag( the koala bear doll ) even infected our grandkids who remember every characters name and repeat "I'm so cuddly I like You". Funny movie for adults...highly recommended.
