Editorial Review:
Product Description: A widely acclaimed Hollywood spectacle which tells the story of the 11th century Spanish Hero who drove the Moors from Spain. The restored version was overseen by Martin Scorcese and is uncut and remastered. Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture, Best Song ("The Falcon and the Dove").

I have been using this movie in my advanced Spanish classes at the high school level for several years now. We read parts of the original Poema del Cid, and then watch the movie to compare/contrast the history with the "Hollywood version". I have this movie on VHS, and have been looking to update to DVD.

Positively no issues with this DVD. Could not discern any difference in quality from this version vs. when I saw it in the theatre. Totally enjoyed the show while watching it on a basic DVD player and color tv set. Note, I don't have surround sound or a home theater system so I can't convey issues relative to special features there. Basically the price was right as was the quality.

Great epic! They don't and can't make movies like this anymore. Picture in this version is sharp and clear. Since the language is in English, all I had to do was turn off the Korean subtitle. What can be easier! And like the other reviewer said, it's in NTSC (playable in North America), which is almost impossible to find but here.

Although the box says 4:3, the film is actually shown letter-boxed, which pleases me. I don't like cropped movies. The sound is excellent, and the picture is sharp enough, but there is a bit too much contrast. Considering how difficult it is to find this film in an NTSC version, I am happy to have it.
