Editorial Review:
Product Description: BASED ON ACTUAL EVENTS, A PLOT TO ASSASSINATE HITLER IS UNFURLED DURING THE HEIGHT OF WWII.
Amazon.com: Unpretentious and dramatically straightforward, Valkyrie is a suspenseful yet ennobling story about the last attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler prior to the end of World War II. Tom Cruise is effective if a little opaque as hero Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who channels his anger at Hitler's atrocities and mismanagement of the war by joining a secret organization bent on killing the Führer. When the outspoken Stauffenberg hits on the idea of linking Hitler's death with an official policy to safeguard Berlin during a government crisis--a contingency plan called "Valkyrie"--the group realizes a post-assassination coup could be covered by rapidly implementing the plan. History tells us the plot failed, of course, and Hitler killed himself months later. But that doesn't stop Cruise or director Bryan Singer from approaching the film as a thinking person's thriller, told from inside the conspirators' camp, where the outcome of their deeds were uncertain for several tense hours.
In the tradition of The Great Escape, Valkyrie is a war movie full of famous faces, including Kenneth Branagh, Terence Stamp, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy and Eddie Izzard. (The lesser-known David Bamber is very good as Hitler, hunched and cracking under pressure.) The film's gravity is offset a bit by the fun of seeing all these actors in a factually-based slice of history, and by a few, interesting stylistic flourishes on Singer's part, including the peculiarly unsettling image of a mosquito sizzled to death in close-up. --Tom Keogh

I had first heard this story back in the 1960s as a high school student, told to me by my Dad, who is a WW2 veteran. He knew all about it and told me to check it out in the history books. He was one of the soldiers, an Army Ranger in C Company, that landed on Normandy Beach in France at D-Day, June 6, 1944. He told me that if Col. von Stauffenberg had succeeded in his plot to assassinate Hitler only six weeks later, the war would have been over by the end of July, and General Patton would not have ... Valkyrie Was a Pretty Good movie I think. On the events leading to the failed plot to get rid of a monster.A Monster Just Like Castro,Lenin,Stalin,Mao and Che. Sadly there will always be Tyrants in this World. I think the Valkyrie Movie Did Justice to the plot. Rent it and see for yourself, It's way Better than Glorious.

Not many people are aware of the real life story that is portrayed in the movie Valkyrie, staring Tom Cruise, Terrance Stamp and other notable stars. The movie is beautifully filmed and every aspect from costumes to props are accurate for the period right down to the English-made Pencil Bomb that was actually used in the attempt to blow up the aircraft Hitler was flying on. In a strange twist of fate, Tom Cruise has more than a casual resemblance to Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg who is part of the ... Read More

I usually watch movies to be entertained, if it's based on historical facts or a true story, then so much the better.
But, this was not entertaining in the least, I put this one with one other movie I saw a long time ago, A Mighty wind. This one blows too. Everything was bad, the script, the acting. If you need something to put you to sleep, this will do it for you.
The title, is what caught my interest, but that is the only thing interesting about the whole movie.

I received my DVD before expected. It was in no way damaged. The movie itself is awesome. Do not expect a Hollywood action movie, though. It is more like living a documentary. I would definitely recommend this movie to someone who is interested in WWII.
