I saw this when I was a kid, and though I wasn't exactly a huge fan of it, I did collect quite a few of the trading cards. Saw it again just recently. Though it augments a couple of the ideas from the Super Mario series (Thwomp Stompers, Goombas, etc), Super Mario Bros is nothing like those early Nintendo games. Rather than being a colourful, cute and varied fantasy, the world of the "Mushroom Kingdom" is trashy and dirty, full of crime, cars, cages and sci-fi explanations. Still, I found it entertaining ... When I was a kid, I liked this movie. Now that I'm older, I still like it! The movie is very different from the game! It was cool that they played the Mario music at the beginning of the movie! Bob Hoskins made an awesome Mario, but I'm not sure John Legiuzamo was right for Luigi. Mario and Luigi meet a girl named Daisy (Princess Toadstool) Luigi starts to fall in love with her. Later two guys take Daisy back to another dimension. Mario and Luigi follow and come to a world where dinosaurs look like real people ... Read More

The Good Things
*Some very slick special effects.
*Some fun actions scenes (the police car chase was cool).
*Some funny moments too (although much of it is quite corny. I still think the elevator scene was great, though).
*Pretty good production design. Lots of scummy futuristic settings, props, and costumes (although nothing really resembles the original computer game).

I guess I was like 13 when I first saw this movie. Even then I was smart enough to watch this tanked piece of garbage, and say to myself, "What the hell is going on here?" Bob Hoskins was okay, as Mario, but John Lequizzano as Luigi? Tear out my eyes, would you please? I'm so glad this film bombed. It would have been excruciatingly painful to watch a sequel. It was a disaster and it looked nothing like the game.

I can't believe there are actually people who liked this nightmare of a movie! Super Mario Bros The Movie is hailed by all gamers as the prime example of just how bad a movie adaption of a popular video game can be!
Many make the excuse that the only reason why no one likes this movie is because it was made for kids. How exactly does that make sense???
