Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Jay Austin wants to sell you a used car, but watch out! Many victims have fallen prey to his smiling face and hasty promises. Austin does everything his way until his dishonesty and manipulation are repeatedly exposed. Like many men, he becomes disgusted by the masks he wears and lies he tells. While having a classic convertible repaired, Austin begins a humorous and inspiring journey to win back the hearts of his wife, his son, and his community. In every man's life, there can be a turning point. When Jay Austin makes his turn, he never looks back.

Amazon.com:
Flywheel is the first film from the creators of Facing the Giants and Fireproof. Used car salesman Jay Austin (writer/director Alex Kendrick) swindles his customers and teaches his assistant salesmen to do the same--but despite the profits, something gnaws at him. When he realizes that his own son doesn't respect him, Austin has a conversion and accepts God into his life. This would be the end of most spiritual stories, but Flywheel finds a warm comedy in the obstacles on the path of righteousness; Austin discovers that being right with God means grappling every day with what it means to be honest. Though the filmmaking is raw (the editing is often clumsy and the cinematography is flat), the story is well-paced, has a gently ironic sense of humor, and Kendrick's central performance is compelling. Kendrick is just as persuasive as a man struggling to emerge from a joyless life as he is when he's rediscovered his faith but finds it constantly tested. Though Flywheel is forthright about its Christian inspiration, the story is about actually living a moral life, not about abstract spiritual truths. The result is a movie that looks towards heaven, but has its feet on the earth. --Bret Fetzer

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good life lesson
I recommend this movie to anyone who might struggle in life. I good simple lesson, put into a pleasant movie to learn from. A+, 5 star movie.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The little movie that could
This movie will strengthen the hearts of men to do what is right in spite of what the world demands. It teaches that we are to follow the Proverb which states: Trust in God with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding. Accept and follow God's guidance and he will direct where you should go (My paraphrase, read it from the source of all understanding in Proverbs 3: verses 5-6). This is a great family movie, as long as dad is watching with the family.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - All the actors are "naturals!"
I just received this movie-DVD as a gift, watched it with family members and we all simply loved it. If the actors are just ordinary church folks, they have untapped talent in reserve. They are unself-conscious genuine people and believably natural, qualities that some professional actors would do well to emulate. In fact, some of the bit players are particularly hilarious and very well cast for their roles.

This film has all that's good, with none of the stuff that detracts or ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - EXCELLENT!!!
This is an absolutely fantastic movie for all members of the family. Everyone I have shown it to also have loved it. Get this and their new movie, "Facing the Giants" and plan some great family movie nights.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Not your typical church production
Lay aside, for a moment, sterotypes and prejudices about movies made by amateurs--especially from a church--in the Bible Belt, no less. This group's first project, Flywheel, was shot with a video camera and may look like an "indy" film, but it has few of the faults normally associated with amateur productions.

As far as I know, none of the actors was a professional, but almost all of them seemed natural and believable--especially the lead. (The lead actor was also co-writer, director ... Read More
