When I saw this as a kid I really did not get it, now that I am older I think it is a real comedy classic.

Everyone needs a "Harvey". Who better to share one's confidences with and to simply hang out. This is my all time, favorite movie -- it's simple, light spirited, and happy, and inspiring. A good reminder to myself and to everyone else in the world, that things aren't always what they seem (to be). Elwood (played by Jimmy Stewart) did not let other's perceptions of his reality sway him. He continued on his own happy, polite, well-mannered, way in life.

I saw this film initially as a child, but all these years later, I now realize the importance of being "pleasant," as Elwood Dowd, friend to all, states.
Not just a funny, enjoyable family film -- but a wonderful positive reinforcement of the childlike (not childish!) approach to life that would keep us all sane, if we only give it a chance.
Highly recommeded to all who suspect we've got friends that others might not see. Charming!

As a child when I would hear an unexplained noise in our house my mother would say it was Harvey. Not knowing any better, I thought that it was her way of easing my discomfort and it worked. It wasn't until I became an adult that I realized she was referring to the movie, and when I finally saw Harvey I adored it. As a lover of classic movies, I believe this is one of James Stewart's finest roles. It's zany, but so much fun. He makes his invisible rabbit so believable and his supporting cast is fabulous. This is a movie every child should see.

There are 3 'must haves' in the Jimmy Stewart collection. This one, "Harvey", makes the cut. Great writing, characterizations, and cast. This is one for us'boomers' and older 'boomers'. You definitely want your kids and grandkids to see this type of classic entertainment.
I met Jimmy in a combat / unsecured area in VietNam 40 years ago as he and his wife were doing a handshake 'tour' showing their gratitude to the men on the line 'defending democracy' back in '68. Heck of a guy.
