Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I LOVE THIS SHOW. BUT I GAVE UP ON THE CORPORATE BEAN COUNTERS WHO OWN THE RIGHTS.
After some years of waiting and reading information from people who worked on the show, producers, actors and others, who've said the great, campy classic 1960s series will apparently NEVER be released onto DVD I gave up and went indie.

That's right, corporate bean counters! I went indie and finally bought a pirate DVD set of the whole show.

I would have preferred NOT doing so, but after all these years of DVDs being available and nothing being done regarding THIS show, as well as some others such as Beavis & Butt-head, why, I've finally realized I've got one life to live and I want to watch the 1960s BATMAN show and Beavis and some others that don't seem to be making their official way onto DVD so I will, when I have to, be enriching my fellow fans who've collected this show and others onto DVD.

Thanks for nothing, corporate bean counters!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hell has long since frozen over
As has been well-documented by the other reviewers, at least part of the holdup on getting this show released on dvd is that Fox owns the TV show but Warner Bros. -- via it's connection to DC Comics -- owns the Batman trademarks. There is speculation that the current lawsuit filed by Fox against WB over the Watchmen movie could be a tool employed by Fox to finally wrest the dvd rights away from WB so they can go forward with the dvd.

This may or may not be true, but perhaps a more daunting hurdle is the numerous clearance headaches faced by whichever company is lucky/determined enough to release the show. Back in 1966 when Batman first aired, nobody had any idea that 40+ years later there would be a thriving video market for their shows, hence there was no allowance in the various contracts for such a thing; so now all of that stuff has to be negotiated. Musicians, actors, directors, producers, certain crew members, guest stars, etc have to be duly compensated before any dvd release will be authorized.

So even if the rights issue ever gets worked out, these clearance headaches could add years to the already considerable wait, especially considering the vast number of celebrity guest stars that graced the show.

In some cases, such clearance issues have actually kept certain shows from ever being released (see: any season of Malcolm in the Middle after season 1), so it is no small thing to overcome, even when there is tons of moolah to be made. And even when/if it is finally released, it will probably cost consumers a small fortune in order to ensure everybody involved makes money.

Like everyone else, I am a huge fan of the show and discouraged by the long wait we've endured so far. Unfortunately, it is in the hands of the lawyers and business affairs people now.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - When is this ever going to be released?
I have signed up for the notification of when this comes available is that going to be any time soon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Legal hassles
I spoke with Adam West at a trade show. It seems that this will likely never be released. All of the stars in the series or their estates need to give approval. Some want WAY too much money. This is the same reason I was disappointed with the WKRP release. Aged rock groups wanted too much money for the DVD release that they had to edit out the classics. I find this vert sad.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If you can't wait for Batman The TV Series then go to?
If you can't wait for batman the tv series then go to the classic [...] and be surprize what you see. Hey I've been a batman fan since I was a kid. This box set is batman the tv series (platinum edition). It's a 10 disc set containing all of 120 episodes including eps 85-86 (with the green hornet) my favorite. All this for $[...]. If you choose standard shipping, it's free of charge. The catch is this is not the original format released yet by 20th century fox. It looks like it was dub from the fox network (fox logo can be seen), commercial free and the quality is not that bad. It's worth getting, watching and keeping until the real dvd sets are released. Whenever that is. Hey like I said I've been a fan since I was a kid and got one for myself. Go to the classic [...] and see for yourself.
