Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Dated But Still Excellent!
Saw this title when I was a very young man and enjoyed it then as I still enjoy it today. A very good title and a brilliant surprize conclusion!Worthy of your time and the minimal cost of purchase. Bravo again to Amazon for offering this title for purchase!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Master Mechanic
This is a movie that i always think of for it's use of what is not said rather than the other way around.
A glance or facial expression merit more than words.
Charles Bronson is in brilliant form,he assumes his part and lives it with an ease that can only be seen in the best actors.
Jan Michael-Vincent was an inspired choice as the rookie and eventual rival to Bronson's throne.
It is so sad to see how Jan Michael's career and his private life came off the rails so spectacularly within the Hollywood bubble(which for him was the problem as the booze and drugs were too easy to find.).
He had the looks, but their was a great deal of talent and ease about his manner when acting,he was indeed a sad loss to serious acting,he can still be seen in B movies, but honestly dont bother it is very unsettling.
One problem that will always haunt Charles Bronson and comes screaming to the front of their memories will be the Death Wish series which is even for a fan like myself drivel barring the first movie,it has to be hurdled before people are willing to give such fine pieces of Bronson's as this one a viewing, believe me i have tried persuading friends to give it a chance.
Buy this movie and the chances are you will be looking for more Bronson, and their is a great library to choose from.
As a final thought you will feel like a couch potato next to Mr Bronson's tough and well sculpted body,
most of us could live with that but when i realised his age in many of these movies,
i completely gave up any thoughts of hitting the gym and instead worked my hand into a new bag of potato chips(haha).
Ian.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This is prime "Chuck" at his best...
This is prime "Chuck" at his best! He plays a hit man for hire and it is no holds bared from the begining to the end. This movie has often been imitated, but never topped. Charles Bronson at his best. The supporting cast is excellent too... you might even spot Celeste Yarnall, as she has a small part in the movie (one of my all time favorite film women of film).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - once in 100 years

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - The Devil's Apprentice
After watching The Lawman, a really good and interesting film, I decided Winner must be a better director than he's usually been credited, and was looking forward to this movie. It wasn't bad, but not as good as I'd hoped, and the underlying issue --- all men kill, but some are licensed (the army, the police, Napoleon, etc) --- could have been explored in much more depth. Bronson kills partly to maintain his lavish lifestyle, but also because he looks on it as a form of art. His weakness is that he needs affection, or at least company, and his isolation makes him both tense and bored. Vincent's aspiration to match him proves his weak spot, as he takes this twisted youth on as an apprentice for ambiguous reasons. Vincent, however, merely wants to kill for pleasure. He is not given any assignment, as one reviewer seems to think, but sets up his chosen victim merely for the fun of it. Eventually, this exceedingly grim theme turns into a sort of over-the-top comedy, with a kind of joke ending which one can almost see coming. I hesitated about giving it 4 stars, but eventually decided on 3. It's quite well-acted, Bronson is always watchable, some of the action is tense and engaging, Vincent is a bit annoying, there's a travelogue thrown in, but it's not as good as it could have been.
