Interesting with plenty of information but a little fast to catch up when no previous experience. It is working for us.

I am a beginner, only had 1 class of ballet so far, so I wanted something to be able to stop and go back and see how the steps work again. I learned a lot from this video but I could learn so much more if they would take more time and do some things such as: 1. slow motion video clips 2. Explain the French some more (translate to English), 3. Go over Ballet must stretching, 4. Go over clothes, about ballet shoes, and hair. Some extra things I would have liked to see is some interviews with dancers and their daily routines (stretching before class? daily exercises?, etc.).
Over all for $12.00 it is a good buy.

When I bought this DVD I was hoping that it would be like taking a dance class, as most of the other workout DVD's have been. But no, it was just here's the step, ok lets move on to the next. there was no time to familiarize yourself with the step. it says for beginners, so why would there be so many hard steps at the end.
So, you see the step done on the DVD you try it, you work with it for about 60 seconds and then you either have to run up to the DVD player and rewind or just move on to the next step. If you're looking for a ballet class on DVD. this is not it!

This DVD is great for days when I don't have class, yet still want to practice. The barre and center work is not difficult if you've taken ballet for at least a few years. With the DVD's format, it's easy to go back and do the other side of the body. If you're an absolute beginner, I'd recommend taking classes at a local studio along with practicing this DVD--that way a qualified teacher can check your placement (and prevent injury).
The dancer has a great back cambre--I was a little jealous! I hope that the Intermediate Class with David Howard will be transferred to DVD soon. As its title implies, the Intermediate Class is much more difficult (the barre is fine, it's the center work that presents the challenge); consistent multiple pirouettes (demonstrated effortlessly by stars of the 80's New York ballet scene) are not yet within my grasp. (Once I did a triple pirouette quite unexpectedly, but of course no one was watching! Doubles are more doable, but inconsistent. There are days I can do them w/o any problem, and other days they completely elude me. I've joked that I have good pirouette days and bad pirouette days, much like good hair days and bad hair days.)
Anyhoo, if you want a class at home, this DVD is a great choice. And David Howard reminds the viewer to pull up, think about our centers, and other placement concerns.

I like to see one and other time these classes, they are very clear, with the dancer showing the positions and movements, the name in French as title and the voice in off. The details are in very clear voice in English. Is very usefull for people who want to know the elements of the ballet clasic.
