Throw Momma From the Train

billy crystal and danny de vito -- how can you miss? actually, there are movies from each of these guys which i don't like, but this isn't one of them.

it's fun and funny, and anne ramsay is just a hoot!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great classic comedy as only Crystal and Devito could deliver!
This is one funny movie! It's basically a classic moment in comedy time. It deals so cleverly with a momma's boy(comedically played by Danny Devito)who wants to become a writer. But he's got a big problem that being that his mother(played by the late Anne Ramsey)doesn't support him at all in his dream not to mention she's physically and verbally abusive to him and as if that wasn't bad enough he doesn't have any friends either! So he comes to his teacher( played by Billy Crystal for inspiration, To blackmail him into killing his mother and above all else friendship. Well pretty much what happens during those events is quite hysterical! I particulary love when Danny Devito whacks Billy Crystal upside the head(in a pre-Dinosaurs manner)with a frying pan. So if you like dark humor, slapstick, or just a comedy that's full of surprises then you will definely want to ride this train!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Devito
Momma terrorizes Danny Devito throughout this entire film. It is great. I love the scene when momma tells Devito to get a soda when some ice in it, or when she calls him a "crybaby." Where did momma think she was going when she said she was getting out of here when they were on the train at the end? Did she think she would just step off the train when it was going 70mph? ha Hey Devito, HURRY UP WITH THAT SODA!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The night was . . .
I gotta tell ya, everything that happens in this movie that is associated with writer's block is absolutely true. It's very hard to begin a novel. At the begining of the movie, larry, who is billy crystal, is driving himself mad trying to write his next book. I'm ashamed to say that I've done the exact same things that he's done in the one opening scene. As for the rest of the movie; it is hysterical. Danny devito purposely used a sort of dark humor hicthcock style for this film. I also love the personalities of the two characters. Larry is the hyperactive, struggling writer who wants to be brilliant and owen is the dopey, bumbling, low-brow writer who wants to be brilliant. Every line in this movie is pure gold, I tell ya. If you really want to buy this movie, I say just do it. You'll have sympathy for writers and you'll also see a ecentric comedy that delivers on all the goods. Enjoy, fellow movie buffs!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Beware Momma, She's Not a Woman, She's The Terminator
Alfred Hitchcock made a great movie called Strangers on a Train and this very funny film is a sort of comic reworking of that same theme. Two people trade murders so there is no motive and the suspect creates an alibi, there is nothing to tie them to their crimes. Things go wrong however because one never agreed to do this in the first place. Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal make a great onscreen pair, but Anne Ramsey steals the show as momma, an overbearing and grumpy woman who's son wants her dead. This film wasn't well received in it's release but dark comedies almost never are. Well worth a watch if you never seen it, and if you have seen it before try it again you may like it better the second time around.
