I bought this as a gift for my parents and they just love it! T.v. nowadays doesnt have much to offer for the elderly so this fit the bill wonderfully

We love it - we had another version, but we missed the wonderful bluegrass music. This is the one to buy.

The content of these recordings is a pleasure - and the image and audio are fine. These early shows reveal various directions and character developments the writers explored - some they followed - others were left behind. It sure is interesting to see things like Banker Drysdale meeting Jed & family for the first time. These dvds can be watched over and over again. Y'all come back now...

First of all, to address other reviews, the picture and sound quality of this collection, though more than adequate and acceptable, are not state of the art. If you expect 6.1 surround sound and HD TV picture quality, you will be sorely disappointed with this collection. But the less than state of the art sound and picture quality is a good thing. The original episodes as originally aired, without any superfluous editing were what I wanted, and what I got in this set. Should they have been "colorized" to please the technophiles? PUHLEEZ! Colorized versions of this show would be in complete violation of the spirit of the original.
All that said, this is one of my all time favorite TV shows. Having been born in '66, I was not old enough to watch TBH during its initial run on TV, so syndicated reruns are all I have ever known of this show. Though I have watched each episode numerous times, they are still hilarious every time I watch them. Oh, that we could have more wholesome, family oriented programming such as this, instead of the current standards of obscenity and foul language. But then Hollywood does not now much care for quality, but is rather more interested in pushing the limits to determine what they can get away with. A lot of the current filth on TV pushes me more and more toward classics such as this. I only yesterday purchased season 1 of The Andy Griffith Show, which is another review for another day.
I agree with vikingdelight that the episodes should have been indexed, as this is the collection's only major shortcoming as far as I am concerned. The Winston commercials are a priceless extra, as are the Kellogg's commercials and public service ads. Even though I don't smoke, having been quit nearly 11 years, and in fact I hate cigarettes and tobacco, those ads are a part of television history and should not be ordered deleted from the collection by the thought police and politically correct crowd. The deleted scenes, which fans of the show will be able to spot, also make this collection special. I had never before seen many of these. I agree with other reviewers, this collection, which is essentially season 1, is the best collection that I've found. Other DVD releases of this show are pretty lame.
I have not yet watched all of this collection, but I assure you that I will and that I will also purchase volume 2, while hoping that the remaining seasons of the show will be released on DVD by the powers that be, without excessive and unnecessary editing. Seasons 3 through 9 being released in identical fashion to this collection and what I presume volume 2 to be, with all the priceless commercials, deleted scenes, and other priceless extras, in the spirit of the original, would suit me just fine.
If you like The Beverly Hillbillies, order this collection. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, order this collection. I doubt that you will be disappointed

The Beverly Hillbillies is such a unique and funny TV series. The actors and characters are the best you'll see in any TV comedy series. I believe these first shows are the best and full of belly laughs. All the plots are extremely well written and funny. I highly recommend this DVD for anyone looking to escape into a hilarious situation comedy. I continue to watch these shows over and over and enjoy them very much. Possibly, the only other TV sitcom that could compare with the Beverly Hillbillies would be the I Love Lucy shows.
