 Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A new, guided review with many apologies
A long time ago, I chose the Henry Fonda Signature Collection, as my first Amazon review. Then, I decided to revisit my original review, and I have deleted this review as of yesterday. My original review was sloppy and negative. I apologize (and always will) for the many individuals who read my original review of this Fonda DVD collection, thereby creating misguided fans and reviewers for this given box collection...I am sorry. I completely forgot the power, potency, and consequences of writing reviews even if you're an amateur like me.
To all fellow reviewers, whether amateur and advanced, please watch what you write and type: be smart, considerate, responsible, and objective above all. It's all about reviewing the product at the end of the day.

What you are about to read below is a new, guided review The Henry Fonda Signature Collection.

HENRY FONDA - THE SIGNATURE COLLECTION
This DVD collection of four films was released & distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Warner Brothers was one of the many studios Henry Fonda worked at in the early days of his career in Classic Hollywood. Please remember that all four of the DVD titles listed in this Fonda box set are from Warner Bros. Pictures.

Before one goes off on an angry, irrational tirade for the films picked in a box set, please consider which studios released and distributed the films for these box sets. If you do not like the films in a given DVD box set, you do not have to purchase them.

LISTED TITLES: FOUR FEATURES
(I've listed below chronologically according to the year the film was released.)

1. "Mister Roberts" (1955, John Ford, Mervyn LeRoy, Joshua Logan)
* Warner Bros. Pictures
-A great ensemble cast: Henry Fonda, James Cagney, William Powell, Jack Lemmon, etc.
-A comedy-drama about life aboard a U.S. Navy ship during World War II. I like this movie because it's a WWI movie ( a very good one) filmed during post-WWII. "Mister Roberts" must have been a good movie for post WWII audience who were trying to understand, reflect, and contemplate the Second World War. I've read that "Mister Roberts' was an original Broadway play and Henry Fonda played Lt. Roberts. The play successfully ran for over a thousand performances, and he won the Tony. When the play was being turned into a film, Fonda expressed strong interest in it to see that Hollywood carried out Doug Roberts with integrity. When it comes to Henry Fonda's acting, he took the craft with dedication, attention, and integrity.

2. "The Wrong Man" (1956, Alfred Hitchcock)
* Warner Bros. Pictures
-Cast- Henry Fonda, Vera Miles, etc.
-By 1956, Henry Fonda was an A-list actor far from his struggling, early days at Warner Bros. Studio. "The Wrong Man" is the typical movie that Warner Brothers liked to make because they were a studio that were well-known for making social conscious films. Henry Fonda is an innocent man who is mistaken for a criminal and the repercussions are Devastating. This film is a very heavy drama based on actual events and parties that was shot on authentic locations, it's pretty straight forward and direct. A piece like this that was released in 1956, is quite relevant today. What if you were The Wrong Man?

3. "Advise and Consent" (1962, Otto Preminger)
* Warner Bros. Pictures
-Best ensemble cast that is so rare today. (Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton, Don Murray, Walter Pidgeon, Peter Lawford, Franchot Tone, etc.)
Another signature of Henry Fonda is his political, social, and law roles...he's done so many like "Young, Mr. Lincoln, " "12 Angry Men," "Fail Safe," and "The Best Man. " (All of these movies I mentioned are not distributed by Warner Bros.) It's no surprise that "Advise and Consent" is a Warner Bros. film because this studio was grounded in making social pictures. "Advise and Consent" is political drama centering on blackmail in Washington D.C. among politicians. Otto Preminger directed this film, so you know you're in for a powerful, explosive experience. It's an intriguing film because of the complex performances by the male cast.

4. "Battle of the Bulge" (1965, Ken Annakin)
*Warner Bros. Pictures
-Cast: Henry Fonda, Dana Andrews, Telly Savalas, etc.
-A World War II drama about one of the bloodiest battles that the U.S. armed forces ever experience, The Battle of the Bulge. During the Second World War, many war movies came out of Hollywood to promote patriotism and all the big studios partook in it. Post WWII, Hollywood continued to make and release war movies for remembrance; to never forget what WWII had done to the Hollywood community, to America at large. When you watch "Battle of the Bulge," ask yourself, "What if the war had lasted another year or more?" Or, "What if Hitler had own?"

Overall, the Henry Fonda Signature Collection from Warner Bros. Pictures is a great collection. If you decide to purchase this set, these films demand to be watched with MATURITY, INTEGRITY, and APPRECIATION just like the actor, Henry Fonda. This box collection also strongly represents Warner Bros. studio of its hey day. Both Henry Fonda and Warner Brothers were the real deal.

Technically, I should have award this DVD collection five stars for strongly representing Henry Fonda and Warner Bros. studio of Jack, Sam, Harry, and Albert Warner. But I'm awarding four stars because the pricing is a bit high; this box set out to be priced between $25-$30.

The greatness of these given box sets is to introduce people to the Classic films of the Golden Age of (American) Cinema to the next generation. In time, they will pass these films on to the in-coming generation. In the end, these DVD box sets like the Henry Fonda Signature Collection give the Classic Movies a future. Stars always deserve a future.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A Signature Conspiracy...
I love the WB Signature Collections. I honestly wait to buy some of the DVDs until the signature collections come out now that the studio is showing signs of releasing new ones on a regular basis. If I already have the movie, I just re-sale the previous copy I had before.

As to what the last person said, I agree that many of these DVDs are already released. When they first came out with the signature collections (Alfred Hitchcock, Cary Grant, and Elvis), only one movie out of the 23 or so in these three collections had already been released. However, now it's gone to the point where just about all of them have been released.

Like I said, I usually wait to buy the DVDs until they're contained in a box set like these, but I have to complain that the studio hasn't changed or altered the previous release or packaging--they just put three or four of the previous movies together and throw them in a box for resale. If they really want this to be a true signature collection, I believe they aught to improve the packaging and not just the outer box.

On a last note, I'm happy to see that Henry Fonda is coming out. However, I'm not pleased to see that one of the movies has already been released in a previous signature collection (The Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection under the title "The Wrong Man"). Now when they re-release DVDs, that can be just a bit annoying as already mentioned, but when they put the same released in the same collection, that just pisses me off. I hope that's not set in stone and I hope the studio decides to either put another movie in there, or take that one out. After all, there were three Cary Grant movies in the Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection that DID NOT repeat in the Cary Grant Signature Collection. They didn't repeat them then so why are they repeating them now?
