This is indeed a genious work disguised as a musical, but it is a very touching moving where lady death lets Gideon (the main character) live his own intemporalilty while reviewing his past life... its showtime folks!

I'll keep this brief. Trying to think of a director living and working today who would make a film this brave is impossible. It's unfathomable. This is a film that stands among the very best of the last, great gasp of American film making in the late seventies. If you have an aversion towards "musicals", (which I do) leave your aversions aside and view one of the greatest autobigraphical films ever made. It's self depreciating nature is way beyond words. It's triumphant in it's self exploration, perhaps more so than any other film I've seen. What a movie. Do yourself a favor.

I've not seen this movie since it's theatrical release years ago and what a gem to rediscover. The "Take Off With Us" dance scene is mesmerizing...eroticism at its best. You can really appreciate the unique Fosse style. Also the dance scene between his daughter and girlfriend is charming. Ann Reinking looks so great in this movie. I remembered why I would listen to the soundtrack over and over again. After you watch it, go rent Cabaret, another Fosse classic. Too bad he didn't live to film Chicago. As entertaining as that movie is, it doesn't quite have the Fosse stamp it would have had he directed it.

A pretty nice video except for the fact that I found parts of it a little bit lengthy and boring with Fosse going back and forth with his dillema. It was a little cliche at one point , however I do enjoy the fantastic "dance" involved here and there

I saw this movie at least 7 times when it was in the theater, and finally bought it on dvd. It's a fairly sardonic look at theater, and the travails of the artist--a slight step down from 8 1/2--buta glitzy, overwrought step down. Looking back at it, there's a lot of cheese on this burger, but it's high cheese.
I still love this movie. The heart sugery scene no longer makes me sqeamish. The dancing still makes me happy.
