Ghost Rider (Extended Cut) [Blu-ray] DVD

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Four For Fun
This movie was camp even by comic book standards,
and some of the dialog was awful and I loved every
second of it.

Perhaps I liked it because I had no expectations,
not having read the comic.

I am unaware of films when they are released,
learning of them later when I come across them
on DVD, in this case at my local library.

The plot is great.
How could you not like it.
Man sells soul and services to devil for favors.
Devil collects by turning him into a ghost rider,
a monstrous flaming skeleton bounty hunter for souls
on a flaming chopped Harley from Hell.

Yeah, I think I'll check this one out.

I watched it, I loved it, I immediately put it
on my Amazon wish list.

One huge problem I have with this and many other
movies is the complete ignorance of the
philosophical and theological foundations of
the plot for their films. This film uses the
Christian world-view as the foundation for its
plot. Why not represent it somewhat accurately.

The devil's "son": "I don't have a soul"
Who came up with that?!
The devil is an angel. An angel has a soul.
How does an angel have a son? They don't reproduce?
If one did, the offspring would certainly have a soul.

I know that the story is utterly fantastic anyway,
but the lack of consistency bothers me.

This meeting of the Monster, Comic, Camp, Biker,
Supernatural, Western and Love story
is guaranteed mindless entertainment.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Would You Sell Your Soul For Someone You Loved?
Nicholas Cage plays Johnny Blaze; a motorcycle stuntman who sells his soul to Mephistopheles to save his father from dying of terminal cancer. His father is killed in a tragic motorcycle accident during an exhibition. So distraught Johnny leaves his home, the carnival and his girlfriend Roxanne, to start a new life. A few years later Mephistopheles strikes a deal with Blaze to release give him back his soul as long as Johnny becomes the Ghost Rider by night. The Ghost Rider is a fiery demon bent on protecting the innocent and is employed to help Mephistopheles defeat his nemesis and son Blackheart. Blackheart and his accomplices Gressil, Wallow & Abigor are hell bent on becoming rulers of the Earth, but only one thing stands in their way and that's the Ghost Rider.

This is actually quite a good movie and I feel a lot of people gave this quite unfair criticism. The intensity of some of the characters is unparalelled yet the acting is quite one dimensional. This is a great film but by no means perfect, possibly the only good acting is portrayed by those who characters matter in the film. Cage as Blaze, Fonda as Mephistopheles & Bentley as Blackheart as all excellent choices and fit their characters perfectly.
I've never been a fan of Eva Mendes' acting and this film merely re-enforces my hatred for her so called acting "skills." Cage is quite surprising as I did expect him to have trouble playing a character that is meant to be quite young. However, he portrays the side of Blaze that is Psychotic, yet, troubled perfectly. The first image that comes to mind is when he first transforms into the Ghost Rider, he has this scarily maniacle look in his eyes that is extremely intimidating.

Overall though this is still quite a good film and although it is let down in some parts with certain scenes, other parts will make up for it which is why it got a 4 star rating.

You should try to watch this film before buying as it's one of those movies which you either love or hate. I loved it but still felt it could have improved a great deal if the casting choices were smarter.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - As super heros go..........
If you see one super hero movie you pretty much see them all. They become, they see danger, they fight, they conquer. Anyone going to see this type of movie should know what to expect. I am not that much a fan of this
type of genre but there are some I like, some I don't. This one I did like. It had good special effects that were done well, although not an abundance of them, and there were enough surprise jump scenes that might satisfy the "scare me" crowd. The suspense and figure me out scenes kept me interested but it would have been nice to have a little more interwoven into story. Putting Cage in black hair was a bit of shock for me at first but once I stopped dwelling on the weave and color change I got into his character and did not notice it after that.
What I liked about Ghost Rider was that it was pretty OK for the entire family of 12 years on up. Some of the "demons" may be too scary for younger kids. Over all it was better on the big screen (of course) but enjoyable entertainment over all. I have seen far worse movies this year and many better, but you can get OSCAR material out every movie, can you?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome Movie!
This is just another example of a comic book brought to life on the big screen. The story is a little slow in some spots, but the special effects and CGI are incredible. Hopefully there will be at least one more - I can't get enough of Eva Mendez. She is just hot!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This one delivers...
This movie looked absolutely amazing on my 60" Sony DLP tv! You gotta have this one in blu-ray, the colors are great. Yeah, I like the story as well, not gonna win any oscars, but a good story just the same. In contrast, I would say the plot of Ghost Rider is very superior to the coincedence-laden plot of Spiderman III. But the cinematoghraphy is superb, and you can really see it on blu ray. Hope this helps!
