I must say after reading all the great reviews, this was a mature disappointment. If you like a lot of profanity, maybe this movie is for you. However, we could only watch the first 45 minutes, then was disgusted and shut off the DVD and watched TV. This is definitely not a family comedy. I prefer comdedy done is good taste, and felt this has none.

We got this movie on DVD after seeing it in the theater. A really good, funny movie that is even more funny on DVD now that my wife is pregnant! I haven't looked at the special features (and usually don't), but the movie itself is excellent, and I would recommend it to anyone over 18. The humor is, of course, exceptionally crude, and probably not even appropriate for my parents, much less any kids.

In the spirit of full disclosure I must admit I turned this movie off after 30 excruciatingly boring, mind-numbing and painful minutes, so I can't really review the whole movie.
What I did manage to sit through was awful!! I know that Judd Apatow movies are "hot" now but I have seen two of them and been woefully unimpressed by both. The Forty Year Old Virgin was made okay by the fact that the tremendous Steve Carell was the lead actor. He carried that movie to mediocrity. Knocked Up had no one to carry it that high.
I don't think I am curmudgeonly. I like silly and/or ribald comedy when it is FUNNY. This whole movie felt forced to me. Watching this movie was like being at a cocktail party and being cornered by that socially awkward person who is trying WAY to hard to impress you with what they know about life or their spot on sense of humour and not being able to get away from that person. At least with this movie I was able to get away by taking the disc out of the DVD player.

I didn't know what to expect from this film, because the cover was so lame. A chance encounter of a loser with an unusually hot girl leads to a scenario that really brings out the best and worst in each character. I thought it was awesome, funny, though more of a chick-flick oriented toward married/pregnant/parent people...and their single friends. A very real, funny, down to earth film.
Jonah Hill is destined to star in a Star Wars prequel about Jabba the Hutt's childhood. Jonah really is the puss-filled infection in this film and Superbad...but he plays such a minor role in this one that it doesn't really matter.

I have to admit that when I first heard about this movie, I thought it would be, well, dumb. But after watching it, I was surprised that I actually liked it. According to a lot of Amazon reviewers, this movie is horrible but in my opinion, it's anything but.
So what's this movie about? A rather unattractive stoner meets a beautiful woman at a bar. They both get really drunk and have sex. The next morning, they realize they have nothing in common and never contact each other after that. That is, until 8 weeks later when the woman finds out she's pregnant. The rest of the movie has the duo figuring each other out and ultimately getting to the baby's birth.
In terms of the cast, I was actually surprised that Katherine Heigl wasn't awful. Seth Rogen did a superb job as well. The movie has a general storyline but there's really nothing that needs to be "resolved" at the end of the film which means the scenes after Katherine Heigl's character learns that she's pregnant are all random and are there just to entertain and make you laugh. There aren't a ton of laugh out loud moments but it was humorous throughout the whole movie. Overall, it was an entertaining movie that moved at a steady pace without any dull moments.
I noticed quite a few reviewers mentioned that they were turned off 30 minutes into the movie simply because the whole ugly guy/beautiful girl scenario would never happen. If you can't get past that, you have no business watching ANY movie since just about every movie contains at least one thing that may be described as "not believeable". In terms of the jokes, I'd say about 80-85% of them are on the crude, pervy side. And the graphic part of the delivery scene should have been omitted.
This movie isn't Oscar-worthy by any means. However, it's good for a few chuckles. Nothing more, nothing less. If you're looking for a good comedic movie that both guys and girls will like, Knocked Up is it.
