I have to admit...I was not sure about this one...until I saw Mr De Niro as the Ship's Captain...and cracked up!...

Every time one of my favorite books is made into a movie I worry they are going to screw it up. Only once in a coon's age do they actually make it better. For me this was one of those times.
Others have given plot summaries so I will pass. I do want to say I am really impressed with the casting, especially Robert DeNiro. Watching DeNiro in his role is simply worth the price of the DVD.
If you have ever enjoyed fantasy at all, buy this movie. You will not be disappointed.

This movie is absolutely perfect for me. I've watched it close to a dozen times and it never gets old. I'd like to believe that I can be very passionate about a lot of things and this movie nails almost all of them and leaves me with the feeling that I need to go make this world a bit better and maybe even a little magical.

One of the reasons I enjoy fantasy films is because the landscapes are so beautiful. This one is no exception. My absolute favorite part was on the airship with Captain Shakespeare. I also loved the unicorn parts. If you enjoyed Lord of the Rings, this should every bit as enjoyable. I actually enjoyed it more than Lord of the Rings. The widescreen DVD has subtitles in English, Spanish, and French.
My only reasons for knocking a star off is I didn't feel the beginning was as good as it could have been. I also didn't care for the witches costumes, make-up, or hair. Also, fantasy is not my genre of choice, although this is a solid film in that category.
*I do not recommend this film for young children, there is murder and the witches goal is to cut out a heart*

Stardust is one of those epic imaginative films that weaves magical storytelling and moral mortal magical gravitas together with unmatched aplomb. The story itself is as old as the ages - light versus darkness. The light is beautifully evinced by 'star' whose heart and attendent magical properties are lusted after by the dark trio of evil witch sisters eager for the elixir of eternal youth and outer beauty. The evil dying King has similarly evil sons, three of whom have already departed this life for the next as victims of brotherly greed and lust for money and power. The three remaining sons each try to murder the other and claim the crown for their own evil treacherous ends. As Tristan and the Star are drawn together in an epic journey where each one learns the true meaning and value of love, they are able to overcome all obstacles placed in their paths by the money grabbing treacherous Princes and the evil witches lusting after external youth and beauty. Ultimately Tristan learns that a superficial and demanding love is no love at all, and united with the Star he is able to find love, happiness, material wealth and be able to be a charitable and kindly King to all.
