This is not a review since I have not seen the Elvis On Elvis DVD yet. But I had to click on the rating to be able to send this comment. However, I want to clarify a statement made on the review given by Wijhe?, I believe. No, the song Maybelline was not recorded by Elvis in a studio but you can hear it quite clear on various CD's of his early shows, we are talking the 50's here. Many of the Louisiana Hayride songs were taped & are on CD's. He sang Maybelline & Tweedle Dee Dee quite often during those shows.

Being a crazed Elvis fan I have every Elvis movie, documentary, concert DVD, etc... Overall I was happy with this purchase, especially considering the cost. I was most impressed with the Elvis karate and home video footage. Always love to see old performances and good interviews. I give Elvis on Elvis a B+.

"18 tracks including the song he wrote for his mom I'll Never Stand In Your Way and Maybelline, both of which are rare recordings and never before seen on DVD"
When a resume starts out with nonsense like this, it should be clear the only purpose of the creators is to make money out of Elvis, without even a hint of trying to do him justice. Elvis has co-written a small number of songs, but "I'll never stand in your way" was absolutely not one of them. This song is written by the duo Heath and Rose, and Elvis recorded
it before rising to fame. After recording the famed single "My happiness", supposedly for his mother's birthday in 1953, Elvis recorded another acetate and it was on this Sun single that "I'll never stand in your way" was immortalized.
The song "Maybelline" indeed is a rarity of sorts, but only in respect of it being released on dvd. This song has never been recorded in a studio by Elvis, and he's only performed it live in the early days of his career, and on rare occasions during the seventies. Since there are no quality recordings of this song, let alone filmfootage, the advertisement of this song being on this dvd makes one wonder what the added value of this song is to the whole thing.
Elvis talking about his weight or about his friends, among other topics, are readily available on many cd's. Many of these excerpts are taken from radio-interviews, and from the very few interviews Elvis has given in the late 50's, early 60's and early 70's. A quick browse of the various videosites on the internet will provide the same content, so be smart and save the precious dollars for some real quality Elvisproduct.
