I am not usually a fan of battery operated toys, but this one is fantastic. My 3yo daughter loves it! Easy to use with so many features. Excellent for in the car or anytime you need to occupy your child. Read stories, words, or play fun games. I thought my daughter might be too young for this, but she can operate it easily. You can only load a certain number of stories onto it, so I'd recommend only buying a few books to start. Easy to connect to internet and download audio for new books. My only gripe is the plastic screw where you put the batteries is not very sturdy and my screwdriver sort of "chewed" into it the first time I inserted batteries. Overall, I am very impressed with this product!

My daughter adores this toy, and I love it too! There are many ways to play with the reading system so she is never bored. I love to play with her when she is using the Tag system. It's really great when it actually reads the story with the Characters' actual voices, cool music, and sounds. At this point she is recognizing words from the books and associating them with words she sees everywhere (i.e. cereal boxes, stores, signs). She is already an excelerated reader in her Class and this is just the tool to help encourage her and make it fun. Great for long trips..and I have to say even with the room for only 5 books at a time I think that is plenty. There are 3 levels of games on every page, and a story, and they can click on any picture for sounds. They can then go word by word and learn to read and recognize words on their own. Overall great toy! I recommend purchasing the whole system with the carrying case!

My son thinks it's a toy but he just LOVES this! He already loves to read but this just really makes books come to life. I especially like that it has reading comprehension questions in it!

My 4 year old son has been wanting this since the store had it on display to test it out. He loved it and I knew this would be something I would get him for Christmas. Well, I did and I set it up on the internet before we wrapped it and I played with it for awhile myself!! There were a few things I was disappointed with. The lack of memory for books, and the batteries run out fairly quick. (I plan on purchasing rechargable batteries for this anyways like I do all his other toys that he uses on an everyday basis. I have the duracell rechargable AA and I charge them about twice a month for a Vtech Pocket.)
Anyhoo, the pen is really smart and does a lot more than I thought initially. I do wish there was a slot, as mentioned before, for microSD cards.

I bought this and the matching components (carrying case and various books) for my 4 1/2 year old for Christmas and she loves it. She did ask for the pink one - which I tried unsuccessfully to get before the holiday - but otherwise she has been entertained and is learning from it. She has been engrossed in it. Much better than a video game that might limit the amount of education, this toy is fun and educational at the same time. And kids like it that way with TAG!
PROS: 1) Allows child to manage the whole reading experience. She can easily choose which story to read by herself and either read along in the book with the 'pen' or listen to it read her a story. An adult can participate as well. 2) Lightweight and small enough for child to grip.
CONS: Unfortunately, it only holds a few stories at a time. The TAG pen holds 16MB which is equivolent to approximately 6 stories. Each story is about 2MB. It works much like placing mp3s on your iPod where you can add and organize as you see fit, but the downfall is the low space. However, it really is not that much of a problem. Another con is the low battery indictor. The voice frequently informs you, in gleeful terms, "It's time to change your batteries!". Good reminder, but a bit persisitent.
DURABILITY: No breakage so far. My only reason for giving this durability 4 stars is due to the 'screw' the encloses the batteries. It is likely because we are accustomed to most toys having actual screws requiring screwdrivers to change them, this has only a flat head plastic screw. It simply turns about 90 degress and pops up, but we assumed it was an actual screw at first and stripped it slightly. That is our fault, but it was not as strong to that simply maneuver.
