The only two in this series they had at Target at the time were Black Manta and the Superman Blue. I picked up Manta and decided to wait on Supes. Went back a week later and there he was solo still on the peg with no new figures. Since he looked lonely (and I would need him for the Grodd Build-a-Figure eventually anyway) I purchased him. I've never been too keen on the Blue/Red Superman storyline. I always thought it was pretty lame, and this figure was lowest on my list. However, once I took this out and started playing around with him in different poses, I LOVED IT!! I was more excited initially to get Black Manta, but since I opened Superman, Manta's been pretty much sitting on the shelf un-moved.
This new series in the last couple years by DC has been amazing. And with the new run of figures in the DC Universe Classics collection, I am totally stoked. Very high quality. Good sculpts and posability. Shoulders and arms have such a huge range of motion.
I've found something new to replace my, as of late unsatisfied, Marvel Legends fetish. Can't wait to get Aquaman, Firestorm, and Harleyquinn in this wave. And I'm planning on purchasing the complete case of wave 1 (Batman, Etrigan, Penguin, Orion, Red Tornado, and Metamorpho BAF)!!
If buying this for a youngster, the only thing I'd be worried about is excessive play may loosen the joints up pretty easily making it difficult for certain poses. Since I haven't had it that long, I couldn't say, but if I had to make an educated guess, this would be my main area of concern.
