I tell you, I must be missing something. This was an enjoyable watch and I must admit this is definetly a guilty pleasure of mine. It had sub-par acting, but that is my kind of movie...I'm a big fan of "B" rated films and this is a "B" rated film if I ever seen one.
If you are not familiar with the Starship Troopers Trilogy you have to check out the first one, it's by far the best of the series, but I have this as a close second.

Expected the Marauder make it's entry much earlier.. it was in the last of the movie.. hope the next ST4 wil be better

I've always been amazed at how prescient the first rendition of Starship Troopers was in forecasting the culture of warfare we've been involved with that has transpired in the last decade since it was put out. Although Verhoeven's efforts to me at the time were obviously reeking sarcasm, which heavily focused on the Fox News like filters of news reports being the main "author" of the satire, it still was an entertaining film and had believable characters, themes and subplots through the movie. In fact it almost seems like at times this film perhaps "inspired" a generation of "warriors" that have been fighting our recent wars, which has bothered me over the years.
As others have noted, the second sequel was forgettable, not having any kind of consistency with the first film in terms of theme and characters.
This film is a good try at trying to recapture the original that Verhoeven crafted from Heinlein's masterpiece, but to me it disturbs me a bit in some ways. Some of the satire on religion, peace "terrorists", harsh treatment of dissent, doctoring of facts, etc. looked at times to be real good barbs at our current military establishment, but I think they perhaps wove themselves into the plot and the characters too heavily at times, so that one couldn't see the subtle underplots that exposed the irony of this commentary as much as I'd like.
The bottom line for me is that I think those out there in the world who are intended targets of the satire, might in fact not be given enough reasons to think hard about what they are shown in the movie in contrast to what they are living that's the focus of irony, and instead take parts of the movie as celebrating their beliefs instead. This in my mind is a dangerous combination, and might inspire a future generation that much more than I feared the first one might have inspired this generation to live out the satire they see and take it too seriously.
The new TV series Battlestar Galactica is less political satire than it is an allegory to what is going on now, especially the first episodes of the last season. It was very strong the way its allegory was handled, as those it directs its commentary against could be really made to rethink their feelings of current events rather than celebrate them. I was hoping for more of those kind of epiphane type of moments in ST3 to make one think and give more bite to the irony than we got with this chapter in the series.
As another commentary noted, Jolene Blalock's character change at the end worked more in reverse of what I'd like to see. I think it confuses the audience more over what the real intended target of satire is, and what is perhaps can be interpreted by some as a celebration of current culture out there.
However, the film in general had a better plot line and effects, etc. than the second one. Just not as good as I'd hoped. Hope another sequel, if they do it, will really try to be more thoughtful about this issue, as I'd always thought the original a key standout film of its time warning us about the potential future messes we'd face. I'd like to see another sequel really hit that nail on the head. This film tried and I appreciated that, but next time let's make the irony really stand out more effectively.

I always found that science fiction is a little more than marauders being chased by the evil empire in great starships...or ones that defy going into space. The message conveyed in Star Ship Trooper, and equally true in the first one, is the brainwashing, the excuses for the brainwashing, and defying the brainwashing. The good guys, and the bad guys die for what they believe in, and morality (or is it?) wins at the end, just to become the new topic for brainwashing...forever in an infinite circle. "Forever war" be remembered. Both this and the original movie stood out for the over acting, the predictable lines, and the story line. But it's good fund to watch. What I don't understand about american films is the lack of subtlety. Do I really need to graphically see decapitate bodies? I really do have an imagination guys.
